*“Tall Grass Taller Than Our Children” – Kasangula Slams Four Years of Filth in Itawa*
Itawa Ward aspiring councilor Isaac Kasangula has painted a grim picture of neglect, saying tall grass and filth have taken over the ward for the last four years.
“Walk through Itawa today and the grass is taller than our children. Dumping sites have swallowed corners of our markets. Rats run freely in broad daylight,” Kasangula said.
He described how overgrown verges now hide criminals after dark, while blocked drains choked with grass and garbage turn streets into streams when it rains. “Mothers lock their children inside. Traders sell next to heaps of waste. This is what four years of abandonment looks like,” he added.
Residents say the stench from uncollected garbage hangs over Ndeke Market, and mosquitoes breed in the stagnant water trapped by thick grass. “We’ve complained, but nothing moves. Itawa has become a forgotten ward,” said concerned resident, a salon owner.
Kasangula pledged immediate action if elected: weekly grass cutting, drain clearing crews, and a ward waste taskforce. “Cleanliness is not a luxury. It’s dignity. Four years of dirt is enough. Itawa must breathe again,” he said.
