The BDC Tower is arguably one of the most photogenic buildings in Gaborone, easily recognizable by its distinct triangular glass-and-steel exoskeleton. From the day I first saw it I knew it would end up in my cityscape collection.

On the day this photo was taken, Gaborone had just witnessed the fury of a heavy hailstorm, leaving behind a trail of destruction and the most glorious blood-orange sunset I have ever seen. By the time I arrived on location, the sun had slipped beneath the horizon, and it was well into blue hour. Unwilling to leave empty-handed, I had to quickly recalibrate and make the most of the situation.

What I love most about this image is that, while it is dark enough for light trails, you can still see faint warm sunset glow on the building, providing a lively juxtaposition between the warmth of the sunset and impending cold winter night. The dynamic light trails from passing vehicles going in and out of the precinct carve a path through the image to create some excellent leading lines while elegantly framing the subject.

Overall, even though it is not the image I intended to shoot, I am pleasantly satisfied with the outcome. A great lesson on what one can achieve if one decides to push on despite changes in circumstances.
