Choosing what to wear for your engagement shoot can seem like a big hurdle to climb, where do you even start? Should you go bright or neutral, matching or all different? What you choose to wear can greatly affect the look and feel of your beautiful images, so let's explore some options together. Here’s two tips to help get your outfits planned to perfection!

Consider the Season
Dress accordingly. We always want you to be comfortable above all, and there are ways to do that while still looking great for photos. Seasons play a huge factor in your photos, wearing a summer dress for a fall photo shoot will look out of place, or if one person is in a jacket and the other is in a t-shirt. Getting on the same page for seasonal apparel will create a more cohesive look. We love helping our couples pick the season and location depending on what they want in their photos.

Choose Neutral, Solid Tones
Bright colours, loud patterns, or stripes can clash. They can also be a distraction and draw your eyes away from the face. Logos and characters should also be avoided. Neutral clothing will give your photos a timeless, classic look. They also work well with any background and are important to choose if we are using multiple locations during the shoot. Some great neutral colours you can choose include classic black or white, blue, beige, and grey. Pops of colors can be fun when used correctly.

So many couples think photography is one of the last things to figure out for their wedding… until they realize how much the right team shapes the entire experience.

Every couple should leave feeling like:

“...We assumed their job would simply be to show up and take some photos and we’d get them back later… that just scratches the surface.”

Showing up and taking photos isn’t why my couples choose me over the countless photographers out there. I mean, in Calgary alone, there are thousands.

Q: What’s your favorite spot in the Canadian Rockies for an elopement or wedding, and why does it feel so “Fly Free”?
A: Big horn look out. It feels so on brand because it’s capturing the vastness that is our beautiful Rockies. It’s not usually busy, giving a more intimate experience for your wedding day.

Q: As part of the Fly Free team, what’s one way you love playing “cheerleader” or “wedding bestie” for couples?
A: I love being your Fly Free cheerleader by swooning over the beautiful photos we are capturing together. You will know by the sharp increase in hyper energy, followed by squeals and me showing you the photos!

For the film inspired lovers…

Meet Monika, she might be the newest face to join the Fly Free team but she is a little secret weapon I’ve slowly been training.. She indeed is our film style that you can add on to your packages! Here’s a bit about her.

Q: Sunrise elopement with epic mountain light or golden-hour portraits with soft glow — which team are you?
A: Right before golden hour - that in-between moment when the light is still soft and slightly cool, and the shadows feel gentle. There’s just a hint of warmth starting to come through, but it hasn’t tipped into full gold yet. It feels more natural, more balanced… like everything is quietly settling into place. That’s the sweet spot for me.

Q: What's your favorite random fact?
A: Sunsets on Mars are blue.

The most magical family photos aren’t the ones where everyone’s perfectly posed… they’re the ones where your kids are just being kids.

Mud on their knees, hair flying in the wind, belly laughs mid-chase, and those little curious hands exploring the world. That’s the real stuff worth capturing. ♡

I’m done with the pressure of “picture perfect.” Don't worry we can still get one or two "classic smiling at me" photos for the Christmas cards but, let’s normalize the beautiful chaos.

The silly faces, the unexpected adventures, the in-between moments that actually tell your family’s story. These candid shots aren’t just photos… they’re memories that feel alive.
