BRIGHTON WEDDING

This beautiful pair of souls made it official at their Brighton Wedding on Saturday. They decided to spend their day like all their other favourite days - together. That meant hiring this incredible Airbnb on the seafront to get ready with their closest people. It was a very special wedding, one that will stay with me. For now, I’m just pulling out this one image to send them as they start their honeymoon.

THRIVE BRIGHTON

This week has been all about running the Thrive conference for wedding photographers with Photography Farm - Education by Lisa Devlin. It is an intense time but also deeply rewarding. Instagram is great for connecting us to each other, but nothing beats gathering in a space to talk more earnestly about the industry, to get re-inspired, and to get cameras out just for fun.

Thanks to the fantastic team that runs Thrive for me, I made it onto a couple of the shoots, including this editorial one with someone who I’ve long admired on this app, Alexandria French.

She transformed a dreary hotel meeting room into an ethereal, magical space, where feminine power was celebrated to a soundtrack of Enya.

Until I make it to the lab to drop off my film, all I have is this trio of Polaroids.

PECKHAM LIBERAL CLUB WEDDING RECEPTION

Gemma and Guy had a proper South London Wedding reception at their local working man’s club in Peckham. These spaces are getting rarer, but they are a big part of our social history. Unpretentious, community-focused, with a lot of retro charm, they can be an incredible backdrop for a wedding.

This couple brought a dash of Las Vegas; place settings were inspired by the local market and the surprise guest was the Pearly King of Peckham. It was glorious.

HOSTING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY CONFERENCE

10 years of our conference with . This is far from the easiest thing that I do each year but it’s definitely one of the most creatively rewarding.

With less than a week until our next one in Brighton, I am at the stage where I question why I do it at all. It’s a lot of work and I didn’t get into this industry to spend time with spreadsheets. But I do it for this, for the connections that get forged in a room where creatives come together. We talk, listen, take photos, take time out and we all leave better for it. Especially me.

I am tired, 😴 I desperately need a haircut but I am very much looking forward to welcoming another room full of photographers in Brighton next week.

Thanks to for being the GOAT of conferences and inspiring me to have a UK conference.

And thanks to this incredible cohort, we sure did have a blast on this one and I think I should look at this clip every time I question why I do it at all. .social

EDINBURGH ELOPEMENT

Elope to Edinburgh but make it editorial.

If you need me this week, I’ll be chained to a spreadsheet somewhere, getting prepped for our Brighton conference with Photography Farm. I always very much look forward to these couple of days. Getting in a room with my peers, listening to the talks from some photographers at the top of their game, and filling up my inspiration cup once again.

I might even get the time to get my camera out, like I did at our last conference in Edinburgh where the incredible Camila Urreaa kindly let me tag along to one of her day two sessions.

LEWES ENGAGEMENT

Lewes in Sussex is fast becoming my favourite location, it just has so many gorgeous backdrops. There is almost one around every corner. We went to this spot for the castle but also stopped at this incredible piece of Georgian architectural symmetry. The door on the right is not real but was perhaps put there for balance. The other fake thing about this place is the facade - it is tiled to look like bricks which means that underneath will be a house made from wood.

But everything about Joshua and Eleanor love for each other is real and they didn’t need too much of an excuse to cosy up under Joshua’s jacket in the rain.

NYMANS GARDENS WEDDING

How beautiful is this Nymans Gardens wedding? Anna and Hans hosted both their ceremony and reception at this wonderful National Trust venue in Sussex. Their vibe was intimate, relaxed and modern.

When Anna and Hans spoke to me about what they wanted in their wedding photos they said “Having some photos that we can look back at when we are 80 and wrinkly, and think ‘phwoar! weren’t you gorgeous, love”.

This made me laugh so much and doesn’t it just sum up what great wedding photos are all about? Their day was gloriously laid back, focused on friends and family, good music and good times.
