Last Friday, 23rd October, Reading Camera Club welcomed Sue Morris to the club giving her presentation “Wildlife Close To Home”. Sue restricts her photography to 1 hours travel from her home, but managed to find a very varied set of animals to take pictures of. She began her talk with a discussion of the equipment that she uses and then went on to feature beautiful images of a range of animals and birds, starting with otters living in a lake in her home town.
Sue gets to know her subjects and their habits which enables her to know where the animals will be and what they will be doing, leading to better pictures. Besides, the subjects themselves, Sue gives a lot of attention to making sure that the backgrounds are clean and sympathetic to the main subject, and also to the lighting. Sue shared with us her pictures of birds, including geese, ducklings and owls, including Barn Owls, as well as the rare Marsh Harrier and several hawks. Her pictures of Kingfishers were particularly striking with dramatic lighting showing the colours at their best, and she finished up with her pictures of Peregrines which nest in the tower of her local church every year.
Reading Camera Club meet at St Peter’s Church Hall in Earley every Friday from September to May with meetings starting at 8.00pm and lasting around 2 hours. There are also several members who will join on-line each week. We very much welcome guests both in the Hall and on-line, from where-ever they are based.
We are a very friendly club and welcome anyone with an interest in photography, from beginners to experienced competition photographers. We take part in regional competitions organised through the Southern Counties Photographic Federation including the SCPF league for projected digital images.
Our next meeting is on Friday October 30th and is an evening where members are going to submit images taken on a device that is not a conventional camera, so images will be from camera phones, scanners etc . Something a bit different, and a great opportunity to meet the club and to get an idea of the photographic work of members.
Our programme, and further details of the club, can be found on our website: https://readingcameraclub.co.uk/
