I’m excited to share that my mini documentary about Savills Barbers & Academy will be featured at the 15th anniversary special of Showroom Shorts! 💈

This was a very important project for me, as it was a personal test to see if I still had what it took to be a solo filmmaker after working with the huge and talented crew of Can You Wear It?!

It turns out that answer is yes, and it’s led to me making similar personal documentaries for clients across Yorkshire. 🎬

Starring the world-renowned Joth Davies, he walks us through the history of Savills Barbers, and its new venture into hair restoration with Restora 💆‍♂️

I’m excited to share that I have been selected to take part in the Self-Made in 60 Days course led by Emma Redfern | Founder of Studio Self-Made! This is an accelerator programme designed for freelancers and all about personal branding and content creation.

I’ve previously been mentored by Emma and Graeme (who both deliver this programme) and they are the real deal when it comes to support for freelancers in Sheffield.

The Story of Savills Barbers (and now Restora too!)

Throughout the Summer I visited Savills Barbers and spoke with the amazing Joth Davies about his journey as a barber and the launch of Restora.

We were paired up as part of this year’s challenge hosted by the South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network and Screen Yorkshire. It seemed like a match made in heaven because I have been visiting Savills for over a year as my barbers of choice! 💈

I know first hand how impactful a haircut can be to a person’s confidence and feelings, so capturing the experience of being in the chair was very important to me. If you are looking to switch things up, or maintain a reliable classic haircut, I cannot recommend Savills enough. 💇‍♂️

We even screened the video at Showroom Cinema in June as part of the competition’s gala.

I’m excited to be returning to Sheffield DocFest again, this year representing Tree Bark Films!

I’ll be around for every day of the festival so if you would like to grab a coffee and talk about all things Documentary, then let me know!

It’s the first year that I’ll be attending as a full time filmmaker, with a couple of exciting documentary shorts in development currently, so it looks like it’ll be a busy week 👀🎬

Today I’ve had the pleasure of filming at Savills Barbers and interviewing Joth Davies about his legendary career as a barber. 💈

We’re making a short documentary about the shop and it has been so insightful hearing about its history, especially after coming here for haircuts for some time now! ✂️

We’ve been paired up as part of this year’s South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network / Screen Yorkshire 2 Weeks 2 Make it challenge, stay tuned to see the results of this project! 🎬

Last week I joined the Forge TV team to operate one of the cameras capturing this year’s Sheffield Varsity Ice Hockey finale! 🏒

It’s my small business birthday! 🎂

Two years ago today, I launched Tree Bark Films. I always wanted this to be a flexible home for all of my filmmaking output, so I hope you’ll forgive me that not a lot of it has been visible this year!

My projects have gone beyond the scope of client videography to include
- Film Programming at Showroom Cinema and the SHU Film Society
- Delivering training sessions on filming marketing videos and utilising LinkedIn
- Hosting and organising a short film awards ceremony
- Having my work showcased at the Sheffield Short Film Festival, Migration Matters and more
- Taking part in a Sheffield DocFest filmmaking competition
- And of course... "Can You Wear It?" … a 10 minute musical short film that will debut on the big screen this May!

It’s been a very diverse year that has shown me the wide variety of opportunities in video and film. Thank you to everyone who’s kept up with the journey! 🌳

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of filming this year’s Festive Gather at Sheffield Hallam University . Organised by Malcolm Baggaley and Hallam's chaplaincy, it was a lovely event filled with music, art, and conversations that helped to get everyone into the Christmas spirit! 🎄

It was brilliant to listen to readings, a live brass band, choir songs, and the amazing JessicaKate! 🎤

This was my second year filming the market, and as another year has passed it has been a heartwarming reminder of how far Tree Bark Films has come in such a short window of time. 🎬

Earlier this week, I hosted a stall at the Hallam Students’ Union. Sustainability Fair! 🌳

It was a day full of interesting conversations about how I incorporate sustainability measures in my own work, and what the film industry at large can be doing to reduce its carbon footprint.

Here are my 6 sustainability goals that I have set myself!

1) Buying and selling used equipment instead of new.
2) Working towards my We Are ALBERT qualification this year.
3) Printing at the Sheffield Hallam University Print Shop as they utilise carbon capture.
4) Using digital scripts instead of printouts where possible.
5) Charging camera batteries at Sheffield Hallam as they buy a lot of green energy.
6) Telling stories of nature and the environment through my work.
