Last week I joined the Forge TV team to operate one of the cameras capturing this year’s Sheffield Varsity Ice Hockey finale! 🏒

It was an amazing experience and an intense match. Here’s a couple of shots that I captured, go and check out the match on the Forge TV channel if you haven’t already! 📺

It’s my small business birthday! 🎂

Two years ago today, I launched Tree Bark Films. I always wanted this to be a flexible home for all of my filmmaking output, so I hope you’ll forgive me that not a lot of it has been visible this year!

My projects have gone beyond the scope of client videography to include
- Film Programming at Showroom Cinema and the SHU Film Society
- Delivering training sessions on filming marketing videos and utilising LinkedIn
- Hosting and organising a short film awards ceremony
- Having my work showcased at the Sheffield Short Film Festival, Migration Matters and more
- Taking part in a Sheffield DocFest filmmaking competition
- And of course... "Can You Wear It?" … a 10 minute musical short film that will debut on the big screen this May!

It’s been a very diverse year that has shown me the wide variety of opportunities in video and film. Thank you to everyone who’s kept up with the journey! 🌳

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of filming this year’s Festive Gather at Sheffield Hallam University . Organised by Malcolm Baggaley and Hallam's chaplaincy, it was a lovely event filled with music, art, and conversations that helped to get everyone into the Christmas spirit! 🎄

It was brilliant to listen to readings, a live brass band, choir songs, and the amazing JessicaKate! 🎤

This was my second year filming the market, and as another year has passed it has been a heartwarming reminder of how far Tree Bark Films has come in such a short window of time. 🎬

Earlier this week, I hosted a stall at the Hallam Students’ Union. Sustainability Fair! 🌳

It was a day full of interesting conversations about how I incorporate sustainability measures in my own work, and what the film industry at large can be doing to reduce its carbon footprint.

Here are my 6 sustainability goals that I have set myself!

1) Buying and selling used equipment instead of new.
2) Working towards my We Are ALBERT qualification this year.
3) Printing at the Sheffield Hallam University Print Shop as they utilise carbon capture.
4) Using digital scripts instead of printouts where possible.
5) Charging camera batteries at Sheffield Hallam as they buy a lot of green energy.
6) Telling stories of nature and the environment through my work.

CASTING CALL!

Premise:
“It’s the night before MAY’S frst big fashion show. As she sews and stitches the finishing touches, her friend and model arrives as they sing and dance through their hopes and fears of tomorrow.”

Roles:
May and Emma, both women in their early-mid 20s.
MAY is a fashion design student preparing a dress for her first big fashion show. She is introverted, and has always felt more comfortable in designing her outfits for others rather than wearing them herself. Despite that, her work is how she best expresses herself to the world.

EMMA is a fellow student and model. As May’s best friend, she was always the obvious choice to debut this outfit at the show. She is more outgoing, vibrant, and excited about the challenges that each day brings. Part of Emma does wonder how much of their friendship is based around their connection, or their mutual need for each other.

Details:
The short film features an original musical number. Previous singing experience is essential, previous acting and dancing experience would be desirable. We will be filming this ‘proof of concept’ short film in November. If the production of this short is successful, then we would be particularly interested in the cast reprising their roles in a longer short film in Early 2026. This will be a final year student film project at Sheffield Hallam University, and will be filmed on campus and locally around the city. This is an unpaid opportunity to act in a student film but we will cover reasonable expenses such as transport and food. Email [email protected] to register your interest with a headshot and portfolio, showreel, or CV.

Today we’ve again been at for another round of interviews with staff and students! This time we were delighted to be joined by Rosie on the staff side, and Faye, a Lead Rep!

This week I’ve been at Sheffield Hallam University to film interviews with staff and students of the School of Sport and Physical Activity. 🎬

It was brilliant to hear first-hand what “Knowledge Applied” truly looks like, and to discuss what makes Hallam a great place to study courses within the school. ⚽️

Earlier this month we filmed at the 76th annual University Health Service Conference! 🏥

From filming talks and sessions with industry delegates, to the general comings and goings of the conference, we captured (and learned) a ton! 🩺

Thank you to the Student Health Association for inviting us to this year’s event, and to Morgan Sands for assisting with videography. 📸

Today, Tree Bark Films was named as one of the recipients of this year’s Enterprise Breakthrough Awards held by SantanderX and Sheffield Hallam University!👏🏻

Impressed with the progress of the business so far, and in support of the future, funding has been allocated which will be invested into film and video equipment that can level up the quality and availability of my video services even more.

Thank you to Santander X and Sheffield Hallam University for this support!

End scene. 🎬

Thank you to everyone who stopped by this year’s Showcase from the SHU Enterprise Team! It was lovely to catch up with so many familiar faces as my time on placement comes to a close.

With the support of the Enterprise Team at Sheffield Hallam University and mentors such as Graeme Tidd, Andy Callard, Jessica Jenkins, and Emma Redfern, my dream of freelance videography became a reality.

As I reflect back on a busy year, so many memories and milestones come rushing back.

⭐ Whether it was teaching videography to Mechanical Engineering Students...

⭐ or developing my Personal Branding with Studio Self-Made...

⭐ or winning a video-centric Business Into Action challange...

⭐ or even just putting in the time to create compelling video content for clients within my network...

I’ve enjoyed it all tremendously.

I’m now on the road of a career which I am so excited to pursue. In the coming year, I will still be around within the iLab, always looking for ways to help people to Grow Their Video Presence. 🌳

This residential may have allowed for Tree Bark Films to emerge, but the journey is just beginning...

My time on placement with the Sheffield Hallam University Enterprise Team is almost at an end and we’re celebrating with our end-of-year showcase. 🎉

This has been a unique experience to launch Tree Bark Films🌳 and gve it a momentum that will last for years to come. It has set me up for a filmmaking future in a way that I would have never expected.

If you’re curious about what we actually *do* all year with this opportunity, want to see products made by our own Creative SHU students, or maybe you’re considering working with the Enterprise Team yourself... you can’t miss it!

Friends, colleagues, and enemies, feel free to pop by anytime on the 18th for a chat and to see all that we’ve accomplished this year, and maybe even get the ball rolling on how I could help you to Grow Your Video Presence too. 🎬
