Firenze (Florence), Italia 2025. For my first day in Italy last summer, I immediately hit the streets with my M7 + 28mm Summicron ASPH. V.1 and 21mm Summilux ASPH. I decided to test 200 (rated at ISO 160). This film is based on Vision3 movie film with the remjet layer removed, so you can have it processed in regular C-41 processing at any photolab.

The first 3 frames were taken with the 21mm Summilux, as were some of the other wide angle shots. I had to guess the framing as I didn’t have a 21mm optical viewfinder on my M7, but I’m pretty good at framing 21mm without looking. Overall I like the look of Candido 200, but prefer ColorPlus 200 for regular daylight colour film. However, if you want film that looks a bit more stylized, Candido 200 is great to experiment with. Back in 2024 I had the opportunity to travel to Taipei, Taiwan with my wife. I was exhibiting my Hong Kong Neon project at ’s retail shop, as well as a workshop, photowalk, and a factory tour. I’ve shared photos and videos from that trip, but not these photos.

That’s because these photographs were all captured with my Ricoh GR1 film camera. Most of these were casual images with my wife, the Wotancraft team, and photowalk participants. As you can tell, I also enjoyed photographing all the scooters in Taipei. I finally had the opportunity to process these rolls with when I was in Hong Kong last year.

Thanks to Albert, Alex, Stephen, Rick and the rest of the Wotancraft team for inviting me to Taiwan to spend some time with them. I hope to return to Taiwan again one day. They mentioned taking me to the southern part of Taiwan to do a bike tour of the coastline. I heard it’s beautiful. I can’t wait!

In the Mood for Film. 10 years ago gave me my first roll of 800T to test, and I was hooked. Up to that point, I wasn’t a huge fan of night film photography. But when told me this converted film was based on Vision 3 500T, the same type of film that Wong Kar Wai would have used on movies like In the Mood For Love and Chungking Express, I wanted to imagine I was actually inside these movies while taking photos.

For the past decade I’ve been using this modified movie film (remjet layer removed hence the halation) to photograph Hong Kong at night, including my project, that I’ve exhibited both here in Vancouver, as well as in Taipei, Taiwan. On this trip, I also decided to test 800 and 400 film. I’ve mixed all 3 films in this post, but I don’t think you can immediately tell the difference. I still feel Cinestill 800T has better quality control (less light leaks) but I trust Candido will get better over time.

I look forward to getting back to Hong Kong and start shooting film at night again. All these photos captured with my M7 + 28mm Summicron + 50mm f/2 SPII. 3 frames captured on my Ricoh GR1 with Candido 400. Dev + Scan by my friends in Hong Kong.
