Throwback to a 1982 Modern Photography praising the Canon F-1 (which you can currently check out at our Sloan’s Lake and Boulder stores, or online)

Modern Photography highlighted the camera’s dependability, the shutter that can operate without battery at higher shutter speeds, the system of 32 interchangeable focusing screens and 5 finders, different backs including data backs, lenses, and other accessories.

Come check one out in person or on our website!
We even have one that’s been recently CLA’d!

Today we want to show off the F2!

The Nikon F2 is the fully mechanical titan of the Nikon camera line. The light meter is in the prism and not in the body, so if your light meter dies on you, you can just swap out the prism (or use it without a prism and shoot waist level!)

The focusing screens are interchangeable, adding to its modularity. It is able to take the oldest of Nikon lenses (Non-AI) and AI/AI-S lenses, expanding your options for lenses. And Nikon has the largest lens line of any brand!

Available online or at our Sloan’s Lake store!

Your scanner matters! You might not think too much about how your film is scanned, so let’s take a look at some different ways that you can scan your images (and how they come out.)

Motion Picture Scanner
-
Don’t be afraid to edit your film! This is the best scanning method if you like color grading your images. The motion picture scanner only sets the black point of the negative, producing a scan that is accurate to the film stock, and flat for color grading!

Frontier SP3000
-
The Fujifilm Frontier line of scanners were professional-grade scanners made for film labs across the world. Although no longer in production, they remain very popular among the new wave of labs in the latest film resurgence. The Frontier SP3000 model allows for full frame scanning of negatives, allowing you to view the edge codes of your film negatives and capture the full image detail without any cropping or compromise.

Noritsu Scanner
-
The Noritsu is the most popular film scanner among film labs worldwide. The scanners are designed for professional usage and for digitization of large quantities of film. These machines utilize digital ICE technology to remove dust + scratches from the film, delivering a digital copy of your film that is color accurate and ready to edit (or share).

DSLR Camera Scanner Setup
-
This is a scanning method that is becoming more and more popular for people who want to start scanning at home. If you have a DSLR, you are already half way there.

Here’s a little camera that packs a big punch!

The Cosina CX2 is a zone focusing 35mm camera that can fit easily into your pocket. Rumour has it that it was the inspiration for the Lomo LC-A, and has a cool swiveling lens cover.

With a 35mm f2.8 lens, it’s great for street photography, and we have some examples shot on Ultramax 400 here (it’s pretty sharp!)

Currently in stock online and in our Capitol Hill store!

Happy Friday! Here is the Nikon FG, a wonderful 35mm SLR! It is a more budget friendly Nikon that allows you to use Aperture Priority, full Program, as well as manual settings!

It is also one of the most compact manual focus Nikon SLR’s, it would be a great camera to take with you on your summer vacation!

Stop by any of our locations to see an FG in person and learn more!

High speed film during the day?

Cinestill 800t is a high speed tungsten-balanced color film stock. The film stock has garnered a positive reputation with photographers who want a more “experimental” shooting experience, while still providing a film stock that has excellent fine grain and a wide dynamic range. It primarily has received a lot of praise for its performance with low light and night scenes - fans of the film stock notably have praised the halation effect typically visible in these scenes.
However, Cinestill 800t also has its uses for daytime scenes - though it may be a high ISO film stock, it still can handle bright daylight scenes with a bit of an experimental feel to the final results.
