Mark True Photo

Mark True Photo I’m a fine art photographer using a digital camera to capture commmon things in common places, but in unexpected ways.

My work invites viewers to linger awhile, taking time to tap into their memory
or imagination, to find an answer, or complete the story Rural landscapes, small towns, and the people who live there are the heart of my photography. Trained as a journalist and writer, I use the camera to tell stories that begin with an implied “Once upon a time…”

Whether capturing a wide stretch of farmland, a wea

thered face, or an intimate architectural detail, my goal is to reveal both the familiar and the unexpected. Working in color and black and white, I favor simple, graphic compositions that isolate subjects or draw viewers inward. Each image reflects a place’s past, present, and future while inviting reflection on the enduring character of that space.

I finally buttoned up my 2026 schedule of art fairs, and even though I thought I'd cut back a bit in 2026, I still ended up with eight opportunities to talk with art lovers about my work and help them decide what will look great in their homes or offices.

Check out the schedule below to see when we can get together this summer or fall! Next up? Iowa City this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 5, 6, & 7!

I’m assembling new “zines”, debuting in Iowa City this weekend. These tiny handmade publications let people see my work for just $5 (each zone includes a sticker)!

I also have my small art collection which includes five 5”x”5 prints and a sticker for $25. Buyers can’t see what’s in their surprise pack until they purchase, which makes it even more fun.

Join me this weekend in Iowa City for the Iowa Arts Festival, Friday - Sunday, June 5-7. I'll be in booth 102 on Washington St., near Linn St. It will be a great weekend to scope out some new art for your home or office!

The best part of my art photography is talking to people at art shows. That’s somewhat limited, so I’m considering creating a Patreon page to generate a small but consistent revenue stream to support my photography while allowing me to share more about the work.

I envision posting about ongoing work with the story behind the image, on a weekly basis, for $5 per month. $10 per month would get those posts plus a high resolution file that you could download and print. At the $15 per month level, you would also receive an 8”x10” (or equivalent) mailed to you twice per year.

What do you think? Please respond in the comments if you think you’d participate, and at what level. Let me know if you’re not interested, too. There is no obligation to participate, but I would appreciate your input.

Thanks for your interesty

Janet contemplated buying “Something by the See”, an image that is admittedly not for everybody. She ended up buying it to help her understand the creative process her husband, also a photographer, goes through when making images.

Have I told you lately how much I love talking to people about art?!!!

Rhonda and Lance lived in Ames for many years, within sight of the Marsten water tower, and have two children with degrees from ISU, so “Marsten Tower” was an easy purchase today in Ankeny.

Cindy’s children go to Iowa State so she was quickly drawn to “Christian’s Season”, an image of one of the four Native American women on the Four Seasons fountain outside the Memorial Union. Come to see me
On Uptown Ankeny and see what calls YOU! I’m here until 4pm today.

I’m not usually a concept guy, but I came across a photo two days ago walking around my hometown. It didn’t turn out like I wanted so I tried yesterday, and didn’t quite get it right. So I’m back for a third day. Can you guess what I’m trying to capture today?
