🌿 The countdown is on! Just ONE WEEK from today — Wednesday, November 4 — is Take-In Day for the Nature Coast Exhibit No. 2 at the Art Center of Citrus County!

🖼️ Calling all artists! This is your opportunity to showcase your creativity, share your talent, and be part of a wonderful celebration of local art.

🗓️ Important Dates:

🎨 Take-In Day: Wednesday, November 4 from 10 am - 1 pm

🏆 Winning works will be announced at the reception by on Friday, November 6 from 6:30 - 7 pm.

Whether you're a longtime member or a new participant, we can't wait to see the amazing artwork our talented community has to offer!

📸 MEET OUR SHUTTERBUGS: JACQUI DOWNEY! 📸

Please join us in welcoming Jacqui Downey to our Art Center Shutterbugs spotlight! 🌿📷

Jacqui has been enjoying photography since 2018, when retirement gave her more time to explore something she has always loved — walking in nature. She decided to start capturing the beauty she encountered along the way, and a photographer was born!

A self-taught photographer, Jacqui enjoys a wonderful variety of subjects, including landscapes, wildlife, nature, street photography, and macro. Her inspiration? “Just the beauty of it all!” ❤️

🌞 Current project: Exploring still-life photography and experimenting with indoor photography using her favorite ingredient — natural light!

Jacqui joined Art Center Shutterbugs after hearing wonderful things from friends, and she has truly enjoyed being part of the group. She loves the friendly atmosphere, the friendships, and the opportunity to learn from other photographers through meetings, workshops, field trips, and shared experiences.

For Jacqui, photography is a journey of always learning and seeing things from new perspectives.

🌊 Her dream photography destinations? The beautiful coasts of both Maine and Oregon!

⚓ And here's a fun fact you might not expect: Jacqui was a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Navy! What an interesting background for someone who now loves capturing the beauty of the world through a camera lens!

When she's not out exploring with her camera or experimenting with still-life photography, you can bet her editing companion is a refreshing glass of water. 💧

Jacqui hopes her photographs help viewers appreciate the beauty of each subject, reminding us that sometimes the most wonderful images are found in the world right around us.

The Art Center of Citrus County is grateful for the wonderful volunteers who give their time, talents, and hearts to keep the arts thriving in our community! 🌟

This fall, we’re shining the spotlight on four incredible volunteers who make a difference every day:

📸 Ken Voegele – Shutterbugs
Ken shares his photography expertise by leading workshops, capturing cast portraits, and creating promotional images for our theatre productions. Thank you, Ken, for helping us tell our story through your lens!

🎟️ Carolyn Moss – Box Office
Carolyn is a welcoming face for our patrons, helping guests with ticket reservations and making everyone feel at home. Thank you, Carolyn, for your dedication, kindness, and love for community theatre!

🎨 John Bescher – Visual Arts
For 25 years, John has shared his artistic talents with our community, teaching watercolor classes to youth and adults and leading the Friday Portrait Group. Thank you, John, for inspiring creativity and sharing your love of art!

🎭 Lisa Peterson – Theatre
As assistant director for our youth program, Lisa mentors the next generation of performers. Her talents as an actress, dancer, and choreographer bring so much to our stage. Thank you, Lisa, for your passion and commitment to the arts!

There’s always SOMETHING going on at the Art Center of Citrus County. From live theatre, art exhibits and art classes! Then there’s the great groups…Citrus Writers of Florida, Citrus Watercolor Society, the Oil Painters Group, Art Center Shutterbugs and our Art Center Youth Group! Something for everyone…come check us out.

The Nature Coast Exhibit #1 has stunning artwork … from oils, acrylics, watercolors, photography, and mixed media … the talent in Citrus County is amazing! There’s still time to see this exhibit!

Recently, Art Center Shutterbugs member Ken Voegele put his photography skills to work for a wonderful local cause when he (along with Mike McFarland and Kim Wischman - photos to come!) visited Joshua's House for Golden Retriever Rescue & Sanctuary Inc in Lecanto to photograph some of the rescue’s adorable residents.

The photographs will be provided to Joshua’s House for use on its social media and promotional efforts, helping the organization showcase the dogs in its care and connect them with people who may be interested in adoption, fostering, volunteering or supporting the rescue.
