It's been a minute...well, a lot of minutes...since I jumped on here to talk about myself. I don't spend a lot of time on social media anymore...really only when there's a gathering, my dog does something cute, or something really exciting happens.
Some of you know that I have been dealing with hashimoto's along with a really weird chronic hives condition...for four years. Long story short...traditional meds weren't working, and I began taking supplements...and they are helping...immensely!!
Along the way on my health journey, I stepped away from photographing weddings. I never really knew how I was going to feel...and I couldn't risk not being well on someone's big day. As time went on, I stepped away from photography all together...other than family and my fabulous clients that come in to see me every year. It wasn't all health issues that was causing this step back. Times were changing, quickly...and I was really feeling like a lot of people just didn't value photography the way that they used to.
But, what to do with myself...
I am fortunate enough to have the most wonderful, supportive husband in the ENTIRE world!! He is my rock...for sure!! We agreed that something would come along that I would find joy in doing. Nothing to worry about...right? But, it didn't. I kept working on my health and whatever I could find to keep myself busy. It was actually pretty depressing. I felt like I had lost my identity.
About a year and a half ago, a dear friend and extended family member asked if I would be interested in taking sports photos for Webberville Junior Athletics Association. I had never done anything like this before...but, I figured...why not!! I had the skills and technology that I needed to create a website to allow parents to sign up and choose a photography print package for their child. So off I went. Basketball lead to volleyball, baseball, softball, football and cheer. Then the elementary school got involved...so t-ball and soccer were added to the roster. Although I don't post these individual and team photos on my social media...I have been very busy!! Working with these kids, coaches, and parents has been absolutely AWESOME!! In a small community like this, a lot of the kids play multiple sports. It has been such a joy to watch the them grow up right in front of my camera lens.
What comes next is the really cool part!!
I have followed many photographers on social that do dramatic sports photography. I've always loved watching their media day clips and the epic shots that they achieve with fog and lights!! The combination of my own desire to learn these techniques along with some really encouraging feedback from the community has convinced me that I needed to jump in with both feet!! It has been expensive, nerve-wracking, fun, and ridiculously scary...all at the same time...but, I could not be more excited to dive into the world of dramatic sports photography. I'm starting small and simple...but, already looking forward to the time when I get to do the cool action shots, too!!
My health is good, my spirits are up, and I have a really cool job!! The beginning of November will be ONE YEAR without hives...and that's definitely something to be excited about. Wish me luck!! ❤ (I will be posting some of my practice pictures tomorrow morning.)
