Finally carved out some quality turtle time this season. Slipping away to the backside of the reef — just me, the ocean, and my camera — is about as peaceful as an afternoon can get. Sunday was a good one. 💙

Emergence.

This green turtle vanished beneath the sand—whether to shake off the remoras or find a retreat from the persistent tourists, I can only guess. I was hovering in front of it when it erupted back into view, sand cascading from its face like dusty tears after being completely buried just moments before.

I’m used to a cheerful welcome from the little burrfish that reside under the bridge - looking almost happy, with their wide mouths, sparkling iridescent eyes and curious personalities.
This one stopped me.
A small, sobering glimpse of the impact we don’t always get to see from the viewpoint of the fishing pier.

Summertime is almost here, and I can’t wait to slow down and spend some quality time basking in the Florida sun—just like this adorable little guy. ☀️🌴

“Fractured Light.”

Framed by the skeletal structure of the sunken ship, our model diver hovers within a narrow entryway on the Kittiwake where light and shadow collide. This image was a result of experimenting with backlighting and off camera strobes, illuminating the diver from behind which helped to reveal the textures inside of the wreck.

Captured during my recent workshop with , this is a very different shot for me, and I’m happy to add some diversity to my portfolio. I feel the backlighting adds depth and contrast, guiding the viewer through the structure and enhancing the feeling of exploration.

What do you think of this style of image?

Blending in or standing out?

I spotted this trumpetfish hovering vertically among the sea rods, perfectly mimicking their shape to stay hidden in plain sight.

Fun fact: trumpetfish often swim head-down like this, using vertical structures—like gorgonians or sea grass—as camouflage while they hunt. A rather common subject in our tropical waters, but still one of my favorites to observe and shoot.

So much fun diving with these behemoths on the deep Jupiter wrecks.

I couldn’t decide which I liked better—the goliath close-up, or the wider scene that reveals the full wreck. I’m usually drawn to images that place animals within their environment… but I’d love to know—which one do you prefer?

Counting down the days until our next goliath season.
