Today marks the end of an era... well, sort of. Today we deliver our very last batch of DVD orders.
When I started REMSCAPE back in 2005, one of the very first services we offered was filming live events— recitals, graduations, community celebrations, and special occasions. Every performance, every speech, every milestone was delivered on a DVD.
At the time, DVDs were revolutionary. Introduced in the late 1990s, they became the standard for preserving life's biggest moments. There was something special about opening a professionally designed case, placing the disc into the player, and gathering together to watch those memories unfold. I am very proud that we did the graphic design, creating custom menus, burning and duplicating discs all in-house for those years!
Over the years, technology evolved—and so did we. Flash drives and digital downloads brought dramatically better image quality, improved sound, faster delivery, and the convenience of watching your videos almost anywhere. Still, we held onto DVDs far longer than most because we knew many families cherished having that tangible keepsake on their shelf.
Today, though, it's time to close that chapter.
The truth is that DVDs don’t represent the quality of the work we create. Standard-definition video simply can't do justice to today's cameras, and the materials required to produce DVDs continue to become more expensive while the equipment and software needed to author them have steadily disappeared. In fact, for years we've kept an older workstation running an outdated version of our editing software for one reason alone—to continue creating DVDs after the feature was removed from modern professional editing applications.
While live event productions are now a small part of what we do alongside weddings, commercial work, photography, and creative filmmaking, they're still an important part of REMSCAPE. We remain committed to producing full-length edits, polished multicamera productions, and preserving performances and milestones just as we've always done. The only thing changing is how those memories are delivered.
As storytellers, we believe the presentation should reflect the quality of the story itself. Today, that means beautiful high-resolution digital films and flash drives—not a format whose limitations have long since been surpassed.
For those like me who like to watch something on the couch with your family, rest assured a flash drive can plug into any modern TV or media media and it works even better than DVDs or Blu-rays do.
So yes, this is the end of an era—but it's also an exciting step forward.
To everyone who has a REMSCAPE DVD on their shelf, thank you. Those discs represent thousands of performances, celebrations, graduations, recitals, and family memories that we're honored to have preserved over the past two decades.
The format may be changing, but our passion for telling stories and preserving memories remains exactly the same. Here's to the next chapter.
