A trip back to the film days...and photoing Mayor Norquist, and the Coast Guard, and Mr. Villanueva of the Milwaukee Bucks!
I loved the discipline of exposing film on assignment. Usually I would mayyyybe have time for two rolls of film, so a total of 20 chances, but it wasn't uncommon to only have time for ONE roll...TEN chances to get it right. I very enjoyed the pressure that came along with that.

I haven't had a LARGE-FORMAT camera in quite awhile, but my gosh, across my 25-year career, I've had two of them and they are such a special experience - both for how they influence the photo-making process, and for the quality of the images that result from that process.
A large-format camera is that classic kind, with the sheet over the photographer's head and the large bellows. I always used a 4x5 camera, which exposed a 4x5 inch piece of film, one piece of film at a time. It forced you to slow down, be more deliberate and thoughtful, and know what you wanted on the film.
Maybe I'll have to get a 4x5 camera again...hmmm...
