Spatter Spotted - They Missed it...again

Kīlauea is back on that slow, steady grind as magma works its way back into the summit reservoir.

Ground tilt picked up another 1.1 microrads over the past day, bringing our total recovery to 14.5 since Episode 55 wrapped up.

While the morning update only mentioned glow, the live stream caught unmistakable spatter launching out of the west vent right at 12:57 AM HST.

Magma is sitting right there at the throat, and the forecast window for Episode 56 fountaining is holding firm between November 1 and 7.

Seismic tremor continues to pulse, and all crater cams, tilt telemetry, and quake graphs are rolling live 24/7—drop into the broadcast and lock in your target date for 56!

🌋 OVERNIGHT OBSERVATION REPORT | OCT 26, 2026

Kīlauea’s summit recharge has officially hit a flat spot after leveling out and showing slight deflation this morning[cite: 2]. Summit tilt sits at +13.2 µrad recovered since Episode 55, while cameras show steady moderate-to-strong glow from the west vent and weak glow at the north vent[cite: 2]. With inflation stalling out over the last 24 hours, current models have nudged the preliminary forecast window for Episode 56 fountaining back to October 31 through November 6[cite: 2].

🌋 OVERNIGHT OBSERVATION REPORT | OCT 23, 2026

Kīlauea is steadily climbing back to pressure as we track the recharge toward Episode 56!

Here is what we are seeing across the caldera this morning:

• RECHARGE: Summit tilt has recovered +11.6 µrad of the 21.0 µrad lost during Episode 55, putting us past the 55% recharge mark!

• VENT ACTIVITY: Constant glow was visible through the night from the north vent, pointing to an actively convecting lava pond churning inside. The south vent remains quiet and covered under tephra.

• NEXT FOUNTAIN WINDOW: Preliminary models place the forecast window for Episode 56 fountaining between October 29 and November 5.

Caldera cams, live tremor graphs, and quake maps are rolling around the clock on our live 24/7 stream, drop by chat and call your date for Episode 56!

🌋 OVERNIGHT OBSERVATION REPORT | OCT 22, 2026

Kīlauea is locked into a steady recharge phase as the summit slowly repressurizes following Episode 55!

Here is the latest from the summit and global trackers:

• RECHARGE: The UWD tiltmeter has recovered +10.8 µrad of the 21.0 µrad lost during Episode 55—officially pushing past the halfway mark!

• VENT ACTIVITY: Strong, continuous glow was visible from the west vent overnight, along with weak, intermittent glow from the north vent. The south vent remains quiet and buried under tephra.

• NEXT FOUNTAIN WINDOW: HVO modeling places the preliminary forecast window for Episode 56 fountaining between October 29 and November 5.

• GLOBAL SEISMIC: Live monitors caught a major shallow M7.0 earthquake in northern Tibet (Nagqu, China) earlier this morning.

Pele’s Taking a Breather

Well, episode 55 is in the books. She went for about 5.7 hours on the 17th and then shut it down. Since then the summit has been doing its thing, refilling slow and steady.

The north and west vents are still glowing at night. The south vent got buried under tephra during 55, so it’s sleeping it off for now. If you’ve followed us for a while, you know these vents usually dig themselves back out over a few days to a few weeks.

UWD has won back 7.1 of the 21 microradians we lost, so we’re about a third of the way there. Hang in there, you guys, we’re waiting on 56.

Something new on the stream: we added a Summit Recharge progress bar up top. It shows how much tilt has come back since the last episode, so you can watch the tank fill right along with us.

And a big mahalo to everybody who hung out and showed love in the chat while I was live. You guys keep this whole thing rollin', and we appreciate every one of you.

Episode 55 Is Finally Underway

Episode 55 of the Halemaʻumaʻu summit eruption officially began at 3:19 AM HST today, following continuous vent overflows that started yesterday morning just before 6:00 AM.

Lava fountains currently reach modest heights of 100 to 150 feet (30–45 m), and it remains uncertain whether activity will match the vigor of previous episodes. North-northeast winds are directing volcanic gas emissions and airborne material toward the south-southwest of Halemaʻumaʻu.

The south vent is ON 🔥🍍🌋

Kīlauea put on a show all night! The south vent started overflowing just after 10 PM with a string of small overflows. At 5:10 AM a high-volume surge flooded the whole area around the vent in about 10 minutes, and by 5:56 AM the overflows went continuous.

A small dome fountain inside the south vent is feeding multiple channels of pāhoehoe stretching across the crater floor, and the tremor has switched from bursts to a steady hum.

I was live on the stream this morning watching it all unfold. Thanks to everyone who hung out with us! 🙌

🌋 Overflow happening NOW! 🍍

As of 11:12 AM HST, the north vent is dome fountaining again, with a glowing dome of lava pouring out from its base. Fresh silvery flows from the last day now cover much of the crater floor around the vent.

Slight Deflationary Trend

HVO/USGS DAILY UPDATE
Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 10:06 AM HST

Summit tiltmeters showed an overall slight deflationary trend over the past day, and summit tremor changed from minor bursts to constant tremor around 8 AM HST.

The summit remains at a high level of pressurization, and changes in eruptive activity or location within the summit region are possible.

Livestream observation (after this update): an overflow from the base of the north vent was seen around 11:12 AM HST, followed by drainback.

10/12/2026

The north vent began overflowing at 11:22 AM HST, and by 11:32 a 30-foot dome fountain was feeding two strong lava flows, according to USGS HVO. Then it drained back down. Caught live on our 24/7 Kīlauea cam, Oct 12, 2026. Watch it live, link in bio. 🌋
