Jonathan Meter photographed Daily Dessert: Treats on Repeat, the second cookbook from Brooklyn pastry chef Caroline Schiff, published by Abrams. The book argues that dessert belongs in an ordinary day. Jonathan gave each chapter its own lighting setup. Hard, outdoor-style light carries Sunny Day Sweets. Softer, warmer light sets the tone for Cozy Day Confections. Moody, dinner-party light frames Celebration Sweets. Every chapter change meant a full set reset.⁣⁣

Most of the work happened over eight or nine days at Cooktop Studio in Sunset Park. The crew planned 10 to 14 shots a day, one chapter at a time. Each afternoon, Caroline and producer Jessica Meter built the next day’s shot list. Those plans let Jonathan visualize, and sometimes sketch, each image before the shoot. He delivered 126 files.⁣⁣

Not every plan held. One no-bake dessert didn’t suit the tight texture close-up Jonathan had pictured. The team widened the frame and added Caroline zesting a lemon over the plate. The cover came easier. The crew shot the trifle on day two or three. Abrams asked for alternates, and the team kept shooting them. Jonathan and Caroline still preferred the trifle.⁣⁣

David Wilman earned an Honorable Mention at the IPA Awards 2026.⁣⁣

International Photography Awards (IPA) is an annual competition for professional, amateur, and student photographers that began in 2003. It helps fund the Lucie Foundation, a nonprofit that honors master photographers and supports emerging talent. Judges award first, second, and third place and honorable mentions across 11 professional categories. All winners appear in the IPA annual book, out in November.⁣⁣

David’s series “Studio 1929 Art Deco” captures a Fitzrovia workspace designed by SODA. The building opened in 1929 as the design studio and showroom of wallpaper and fabric company Sanderson. SODA’s new interiors bring back its Art Deco character. The series earned recognition in the Architecture: Interior category.⁣⁣

The Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel wanted guests to see exactly what a balcony booking gets them. That meant the outdoor space and the view south toward the building where the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, together in one image. A drone was off the table in Manhattan, so Jeff Herron sent his camera out over Times Square on a boom arm instead.⁣⁣

Jeff and his assistant, Jesus Aranguren, first tried extending a tripod past the balcony wall. It didn’t reach far enough. Jesus suggested a 13-block walk to a camera store to buy a boom arm, about two miles round trip.⁣⁣

Jeff shoots medium format, so the rig carried significant weight. The team anchored the tripod with sandbags. They removed the battery grip and viewfinder to lighten the camera. Jeff leveled each frame through live view in Capture One. A wire tied the camera back to the balcony as an extra safeguard above the sidewalk. They sent it out four times.⁣⁣

The timing added another layer. The Knicks were playing in the NBA Finals, and World Cup matches had just started at MetLife Stadium across the river. Soccer and basketball fans filled the square with chants. Jeff worked the crowds into the photographs. His dusk frames used long exposures, turning the movement below into streaks of motion. He photographed both the smaller and larger balconies, by day and at dusk.⁣⁣

Bibiana Cristina led the stills for a new Anantara Koh Yao Yai campaign, shot on Thailand's Koh Yao Yai Island. She brought her own point of view to the photography while keeping it inside the production's wider creative vision. The set covers architecture, interiors and landscape. It also covers guest experiences, the people who work there, and quieter, unplanned moments between setups. The result is a sense of place that feels polished enough for a luxury brand and loose enough to feel lived in.⁣⁣

Antti Yrjönen was photographing ski jumping in Lahti when the call came. Days after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, he landed in Ukraine for the first time. Schools were already part of the story, but as shelters, not classrooms. They housed families fleeing the east, along with staff who organized food and beds. Over many return trips, mostly on assignment for Finn Church Aid, Antti kept finding schools in very different circumstances. He photographed in Chernihiv, around Kyiv, in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions, and in Odesa, Lviv, Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr.⁣⁣

The scale of the damage is hard to picture. UNICEF counted more than 1,700 damaged or destroyed education facilities in Ukraine by February 2026. One in three children can’t attend in-person school full-time. In Kharkiv, about 18 miles from the Russian border, classes moved into five metro stations in autumn 2023. Antti followed six-year-old Yuliia Yurova through her school day there, then rode the metro home with her and her mother. In Romny, a daycare stays open only because it has a working bomb shelter.

The series’ best-known image wasn’t planned. An air-raid alert kept every student home from a school in Chernihiv. Antti followed math teacher Olena Mykhailivna Loboda as she taught an online lesson to an empty room, her laptop propped on a chair atop a desk. The photo won News Photo of the Year in Finland. It also made the World Report Award’s Single Shot shortlist and took third place at the UNICEF-backed Giga Photo Award.

See the work at Festival della Fotografia Etica in Lodi, Italy, this October.⁣⁣

Tim Redman photographed Bates Mechanical’s plumbers on several active construction sites to build a new photo library for the company’s website. A marketing manager in Nashville hired him, and the two have worked together entirely at a distance.

His hardest setup was a cramped, far-from-clean public men’s restroom. He tucked small portable lights into the few gaps he could find and kept adjusting his angles until the scene worked. The jeans he wore that day didn’t survive.

Outdoors, he shot a hydro-jetting crew from ground level in upper-90s Atlanta heat. He kept it simple, bouncing sunlight back onto the plumber. Once he had the frame, he sent the plumber back into the air conditioning. His favorite image came from the top of a ladder, where a plumber’s neck-mounted work light flared straight back into the lens.

Tanner Garza photographed chef de cuisine Steffen Perico at Uchiko Plano for Plano Magazine.⁣⁣

The restaurant opened in Legacy West last year as the wood-grilled sibling to Dallas' Uchi, part of James Beard Award winner Tyson Cole's Hai Hospitality group.⁣⁣

Steffen learned to cook helping his mom with family dinners. Years later, he joined Hai at Top Knot while planning a move to Spain, and never left.⁣⁣

Today his menu centers on a wood-fire hearth. That fire turns out a whole fish served only in Plano and a bone-in short rib that feeds four. The team also hosts seasonal dinners with local partners, most recently Bonton Farms.⁣⁣

Amid all that precision, Tanner found the team's personality in a small Lego bonsai.⁣⁣

10/15/2026

Josh Edelson has covered more than 100 wildfires in California, but the Old Trails Fire was his first major fire assignment in Washington. He spent 14 hours photographing the aftermath for AFP as residents returned to what was left of their homes.⁣⁣

Unlike California, Washington offers the press no legal guarantee of access to a disaster zone. Josh had to be strategic and creative to reach the scenes he would normally walk into. He works in full firefighter Nomex, carries a fire shelter and keeps a chainsaw in his truck. He can stay self-contained for up to three days.⁣⁣

Once inside, Josh looks past the statistics to the human details. A family tries to match debris to the rooms they remember. A message spray-painted on the street asks if anyone checked under the car for a missing pet. When he photographs someone returning to a burned home, he keeps his distance. He waits for at least a nonverbal acknowledgment before raising the camera.⁣⁣

The work follows him home. Josh calls it “fire brain”: days of walking down ordinary streets, picturing the buildings in flames and planning where he would stand.⁣⁣
