Had a square frame laying around the house, so I decided to print one of my first medium format film shots to fit it. The camera only takes square images and is a format I’m really beginning to like. The print is of an old car in very tight quarters, so the best I could do, was to get a radiator close up. Still loved the way it turned out.

Went out to do a little photo scouting and at the same time to see how one of my favorite areas faired hurricane Isaias. Soundside Nature Preserve took quite the beating, it was almost disheartening to see so much damage done. It’s going to take the park a long time to recover and may not ever be the same. Here is a small before and after comparison of one of my favorite subjects there.

Out at one of our favorite hangouts yesterday for the Chili Cookoff/vollyball/ raffle to help Careing and sharing of South Santa Rosa County. I donated a photo (as I do every year) to help raise over $5000.00 for the charity.

Before being so rudely interupted by Hurricane Isaias, I had just gotten back from an family emergency in the Texas Panhandle. I did have a little time on my hands so some photography along the Texas portion of old Route 66 was in order.
Here are a few from that adventure.

Old School Film

10/24/2026

After developing and scanning my first roll of Medium Format film, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. By surprised, I mean, this film had a very unique old school film look to it. I have a couple more rolls of it, that I will save for certain projects that would benifit from this particular look. What do you think of it and what subjects do you think would benifit from it?

Out and about yesterday to capture some of the beached sailboats left by Hurricane Isaias on film. While I feel for the owners, there is just something that draws me to them. Here are a few digital shots of the Solstice.

I’ve kinda been ignoring my photography page, with all the hurricane prep and clean up afterwards, things have settled down enough to get back at it.
I recently came into a gently used Yashica Mat 124G, via a friend, and thus started my foray in to Medium Format Photography. This Twin Lens camera is interesting also as it only takes square photos. Yesterday I developed my first roll of film from it, so I’ll be interested to see how they come out once scanned.

Looks like we are in for a direct hit (or pretty darn close) as a Cat 2 hurricane. We are as ready as we can be. Both cars filled with gas, hurricane shutters are up, couple meals prepared, plenty of water. Solar generator and panels on stand by, all batter packs charged, now it’s time to kick back and enjoy the show! See you fine folks after the festivities.
