Checked out the new BĂ©La in East Liberty last night with Karen ‱ PGH food, travel, & more and sophia ćŒ”æ©çŠ and absolutely loved it! They specialize in authentic Vietnamese food and have dishes we haven’t seen in other spots in town. Our favorites were the Shaking Beef made with ribeye, the pork chop rice plate, the chili garlic chicken wings, and the giant sugarcane prawns. They have amazing Vietnamese coffee and desserts as well (get the homemade flan!!) I can’t wait to go back and try the pho. They are set to get their liquor license this summer and will have Vietnamese style cocktails too! Go check them out!

Still thinking about the time my friends and I tried Titusz in Lawrenceville and not a single dish missed! I personally really loved the walleye, it was perfectly cooked and balanced with a gorgeous kick of acid that brightened the dish. You also can’t go wrong with the chicken paprikash that’s a classic Hungarian comfort food dish.

This weather just makes me crave all the sweets. Last week I was at Mango Mango and we had to get the strawberries and mango crepe with matcha ice cream. My favorite thing at Mango Mango besides the mango pancake has to be the black sesame soup with black sesame filled mochi. I know it’s too hot for soup but this is a Chinese health and beauty food! Black sesame seeds are a superfood that supports heart health, digestion, bone health, and healthy skin and hair. It’s a plus that it comes in dessert form usually 😋 you need to check out Mango Mango in Sq. Hill for some Hong Kong style desserts!

What’s a good way to beat the heat wave? Going to a museum! The 59th Carnegie International is back at the Carnegie Museum of Art and I finally checked it out this week since I had a day off and I had family in town. It’s always such a treat being able to see all the standing art pieces I love in this museum and new exhibits. This year’s International is titled If the word we, and it explores all the approaches shaping contemporary art and creative practice today. It features new and existing works by 61 artists from around the world. I’ve been going to the International since my college days and I always love how it invites us to expand our perspective and create conversation. I definitely recommend checking it out during this heat wave!

Plus, the art museum is connected with the natural history museum as well, so there really is so much to explore at Carnegie Museums ! Their cafe is really cute too!

Had a wonderful time last night at Dancing Gnome Beer with our closest friends and family celebrating Peter’s 31st birthday. He would’ve absolutely loved a brewery birthday where he got to try all their IPAs while yapping with everyone he loves. Happy birthday, Peter! We love you and miss you forever ❀

We of course had to make his favorite strawberry cornmeal cake and black raspberry almond cupcakes, because what is a birthday without singing and sweets??
