"An Autumn Greeting" by George Cooper

"Come," said the Wind to the Leaves one day.
"Come over the meadow and we will play.
Put on your dresses of red and gold.
For summer is gone and the days grow cold."

"Leaves" by Elsie N. Brady

How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep their work well done,
Colours gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children for the snow.

"The Leaves are Green" - anonymous

The leaves are green
The nuts are brown,
They hang so high
They will not come down.

Leave them alone
Till frosty weather,
Then they will all
Come down together.

"October" by Thomas Bailey Aldrich

October turned my maple leave's to gold;
The most are gone now; here and there one linger.
Soon these will slip from out the twig's weak hold,
Like coins between a dying miser's fingers.

"Noisy, Noisy" by Jack Prelutsky,

It's noisy, noisy overhead,
the birds are winging south,
and every bird is opening
a noisy, noisy mouth.

They fill the air with loud complaint,
they honk and quack and squawk -
they do not feel like flying,
but it's much too far to walk.

"September"by Helen Hunt Jackson

The goldenrod is yellow
The corn is turning brown.
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down.

The gentian's bluest fringes
Are curling in the sun;
In dusty pods the milkweed
Its hidden silk has spun.

The sedges flaunt their harvest.
In every meadow nook;
And asters by the brook-side
Make asters in the brook.

From dewy lanes at morning
The grapes' sweet odors rise;
At noon the roads all flutter
With yellow butterflies.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer's best of weather,
And autumn's best of cheer.

"Autumn" by Emily Dickinson

The morns are meeker than they were,
The nuts are getting brown;
The berry's cheek is plumper.
The rose is out of town.

The maple wears a grayer scarf,
The field a scarlet gown,
Lest I should be old-fashioned,
I'll put a trinket on.

"September" by Edwina Fallis

A road like brown ribbon,
A sky that is blue,
A forest of green
With that sky peeping through.
Asters deep purple,
A grasshopper's call,
Today it is summer,
Tomorrow it is fall.
