I am so thankful for friends (and repeat clients) that take an idea and run with it. I envisioned the Helman Family taking evening walks together, playing on the playground, eating s'mores beside a campfire, and getting cozy on a chilly fall night. Then this happened--they went camping!! It was perfect, and so much fun (especially for me). We chatted about how nice it was to unplug for a night, and just maximize family time. The weather was sending us mixed emotions, but it turned out to be a beautiful evening.

I am still in awe that I get to do this. I get to document these memories for families whose children are growing way too quickly! Melissa Helman did say that getting family photos each year is a non-negotiable, and I agree with her. Bottle up the quirky expressions, the crooked grins, the untamed hair, and most of all--THE LOVE!

Thank you for always supporting my business, Helmans. I love your tender hearts and fierce love for your family.

I am really in tune with my creative side lately (thanks to some fellow photographers and my OG mentor) and have so many ideas for photoshoots that highlight your family's interests. I know these ideas are not all original, as I know there are many fishing portraits out there, but this is my version--and I LOVE IT!

I had the perfect family in mind for this adventurous sunrise session: Nicole Goble and her sweet crew. Turns out they love to fish as a family, so they were totally up for it. The morning was slow, calm, and peaceful. The kids had plenty of nibbles, a really close catch, but inevitably the fish stayed in the river. Fun was had regardless!

We ended the session with hot cocoa, play time on the shore, and a little (VERY IMPRESSIVE) open-air watercolor sketch by the talented La Reux Studio | Nicole Goble.

Her beauty just radiates, Harper Kaya. All we needed was a cute outfit and some tunes. You'd never guess these photos were taken near a busy road bordering a neighborhood and community complex.

This is your reminder to book the photos; no particular reason/milestone needed, just freeze time for a moment.

Ice cream, puddles, and splashing in the creek--just a few of the birthday girl's favorite things! I'm finding so much joy in documenting these stories. This mama wanted some privacy for her little one and look at how many photos I have to share that honor that wish. These moments are so special and deserve to be remembered.

Rainy Senior Portraits

Introducing the senior portrait session that almost didn't happen. The weather was relentless but we still held out hope that the summer storm would just pass though quickly. After driving to our destination about 45 minutes away, we ultimately made the decision to reschedule. We headed home through the slightly flooded backroads, and while I was driving I had this guilty feeling and was so mad that the lovely JoAnn Morris was all dressed up with no place to go. About 20 minutes from home, I called them and said, "have her stay in her dress, I'll come to your house and take some rainy photos, it'll be great." They must have read my mind, and were likely also feeling disappointed because they immediately agreed and said they stopped at a little spot in our neighborhood to get some phone pics. So, I met them there. The result is so dreamy, I am so glad they trusted me and were so flexible and understanding! Stay tuned for Part II of her session (hopefully with some sunshine) in the Spring!!!

The Art of Motherhood Shoot-Along hosted by Angela | Maryland Motherhood & Family Lifestyle Photographer and Miriam Dudley I Northern Virginia Photographer was just what I needed to get my creative juices flowing. I got to spend time with some really great women (Angela, Miriam, Gaithersburg MD Photographer, and JessicaEndlichPhotography) talking about our goals and our dreams, and then we met the stunning Ashley Caitlin Vaughn and her crew for maternity photos at this majestic location. I really can't explain the mindset shift I've had this summer, but I owe it all to the community of photographers I've met, worked with, and learned from these past few months. I've grown as a photographer, and I am excited for what's to come.

What exactly is that? Documenting your real-life, unscripted story. I want you to get lost in love doing things that represent YOU, and just forget that I'm there. Show the world that joyful and messy can coexist--and just how beautiful it can be.

Thank you, ladies! This was a wonderful experience and can't wait for attend your next one! I'll also be looking forward to some photo updates when that sweet babe arrives, Ashley!

Last month I had the privilege of working alongside some amazing photographers at the Shoot & Learn Workshop hosted by Miriam Dudley I Northern Virginia Photographer. We spent a few hours chatting about our businesses, learning the art of storytelling photography, and relishing in community all while enjoying a meal. Then we headed to the location to meet Morgan Horne and her beautiful family.

I learned so much in those few hours, and I am so grateful to be surrounded by such talented and strong women that are willing to share their craft. We all had some fun and created lasting memories that night. I'll definitely be investing in more education like this. Thank you Miriam, Morgan, and the lovely crew (DMV~Northern Virginia~Kassie Wampler Photography, Katie Branca | Northern VA Family Photographer) for a successful evening.

What a beautiful day it was celebrating Grace & Tristan Inn at the Old Silk Mill in Fredericksburg last month. They were surrounded by all their loved ones and the smiles were plentiful. It truly was an honor working with these two, just so easy-going, playful, and certainly know how to throw a party. The dance floor was jam-packed all night! Cheers to you both, go on and relish in your married era.

Simple request--I want patriotic photos with my best friend. So, what do we do? Early 4:30AM wake up call to get it done at sunrise on the cusp of Independence Day weekend! Love how they turned out. What a regal pup with the sweetest human. Thanks, for trusting me with this request!
