Vintage advertising steals the spotlight on Motel Safari’s colorful guest patio at dusk. These nostalgic wall murals celebrate the roadside charm of a bygone era at 722 East Route 66 Boulevard in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Opened in 1959, the motel carries that midcentury spirit along the Mother Road.

SideKix on 66 along old Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico, carries on the Kix on 66 tradition at a new location after an April 2025 fire heavily damaged the original restaurant just down the road. 9/2026

81 year young Rodney Justo and the great Atlanta Rhythm Section performed a fun set last evening at the Brown County Music Center. I've always enjoyed this band. 10/2026

When you feel like a kicker facing a 75 yard attempt at the uprights, all you can do is try. Taken last night in Cincinnati, on my Pixel 11 Pro XL, and not my Sony mirrorless, this is the best I could do from back in the room. Rush 10/2026

One of my earliest concert photos taken was in Terre Haute, Indiana and the first time seeing Rush, November 21, 1975. Here they're openers for an up and coming band called Kiss. The stage depth here was about 7 feet, with Rush set up in front of the Kiss gear. Kiss lighting can be seen here, but the candelabras and Kiss logo sign cannot. Tonight I get to see these old guys perform in Cincinnati for my first time in years. I'm mildly stoked. 😁

In my only Sweet attended gig, the late great Brian Connolly, lead singer. You knew him you loved him. Ballroom Blitz, Fox on The Run and an incredible seemingly unknown deep song and album history, of which I've since become a major fan. This was from Terre Haute, Indiana's Hulman Civic Center.

23 years ago Indycar driver Tony Renna had just signed with Chip Ganassi Racing as a teammate to Scott Dixon in one of the famous Target cars. On this day Tony and the team appeared for a test session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for the 2004 season. Yours truly was stuck in the hospital for a life changing situation when I got the news from the speedway that there had been an accident involving Tony. A seemingly freak accident that took his life very unexpectedly. He will never be forgotten. This was taken earlier there for the 2003 Indianapolis 500.

Back when Rush were full of aggression, p**s and vinegar, and Geddy's high voice could break glass, I captured this in 1976 from an old Minolta film camera. With the slight aid of some AI to denoise and breathe hew life back into it without altering it (we can have this discussion ;-)), I was able to drag it out of the vault. You may notice the signatures of Al and Ged here, when they signed a few things for me deep in the bowels of Deer Creek Music Center during their later Presto tour. They both got a kick out of the hair and "the robes."
