At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the absolute BEST part of this job is seeing returning families year after year.

Getting to watch kids grow up, and being trusted to document it, is something I will never take for granted.
I’ve photographed these two since they were in their mama’s belly, and now I get to see their little sibling relationship develop. It’s so special.

A little reminder for parents in those very early years: I promise photo shoots just get better as they get older (but you also don’t want to miss out on the beautiful chaos of those early years).

Plus, when you come back to the same photographer every year, your kids start to recognize us and show up way more comfortable just being themselves ❤️

This season feels different. It’s still full on, and yet, I’m making choices to protect what matters most to me.

I’m the first person to admit I am not perfect (even though I’m a type A perfectionist to my core). Sometimes I slip up, and that really just makes me human and a passionate business owner. But the point is, I’m so much more than my business, and that doesn’t change just because it’s busy season. I’m a whole person, a mom, a wife, a friend, and I spend a lot of time with myself, so I’d better enjoy who I’m spending time with.

This is just another friendly reminder that you get to make boundaries in your life too.

What are some tips you have for navigating family time during busy seasons at work?

Yeah… me neither. Completely neurotypical over here 🙈😂

Capturing those early, hazy newborn days and your first baby becoming a big sibling can be equal parts special and chaotic.

This is also a friendly reminder to all parents, your toddler is going to toddler during your newborn session. They are the ultimate wild card for newborn photos, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Yes, your newborn will have their fussy moments without a doubt but normally those are solved pretty quickly.

Their big siblings though are packed with so much energy, so much love AND are going through so much change in their world.

Being a mom who’s been on the other side of the camera during a newborn shoot with a toddler (a 1.5yo) and a newborn, I really really get it.

Kids feed off our energy. If we are stressed and frustrated, they sense it and that’s when they shut down.

I promise you the best thing you can do is to stay calm, positive and trust your photographer.

Don’t miss out on capturing your second child’s newborn photos because “my toddler can’t handle a photoshoot”… because I bet you they sure can if you have realistic expectations that your toddler will toddler and if you hire the right photographer.

When’s the last time you updated your branding photos?

If the honest answer is “before the haircut, the new glasses, or the business pivot,” this one’s for you.

Your photos should actually look like you. The current you. When someone books a call or walks into a meeting, they should recognize you instantly, not do a double take.

They should also feel like you. Your laugh, the way you talk with your hands, the books you actually read. Your personality. People hire people, and personality is what makes someone choose you over the next name in their search results.

And you’re more than your business. A few glimpses of your life outside of work go a long way in making people feel like they already know you.

Plus, a good session gives you a whole library to work with. Detail shots, workspace photos, candids, in-action moments. Real images you can use all over your website instead of the same stock photo everyone else is using.
