Lightning bolt strikes behind the boat named after Mote Marine Dr. Eugenie Clark AKA “The Shark Lady” at Lido Key on July 23rd 2026 in Sarasota, FL.

“Dr. Clark was a world authority on sharks and fish who built Mote Marine Laboratory in 1955. The Lab, then called the Cape Haze Marine Laboratory, was created and supported by the Vanderbilt family as a place to study the oceans and share that information with the world.

She conducted 72 deep submersible dives. Her last research projects concerned the behavior of tropical sand fishes and deep sea sharks. These studies have been featured in 12 articles she has written for National Geographic magazine.”

Last night’s lightning storm was very extreme, agressive and loud. I missed two photos of lightning hitting the New Pass bridge. But, I did get this artsy photo composition with a jumping bolt and the Eugenie Clark which is always one of my favorite scenes to photograph. Better than nothing for the night! You can’t catch them all ~

TASTY HOME COOKIN LAST DAY: I stopped by today to get some food. They were sold out. It was nice to see the place though. 36 years of serving the community. Thank you for the memories. Farewell ! 🇺🇸🍽️❤️ Sarasota has lost another gem.

I love tiny old school restaurants like these. They are getting harder and harder to find.

Storm woke me up around 2AM and I decided to rush out to see what I could capture. This is the only bolt I got while being out there for hours. Worth it I think. It was a BIG ONE! Did you hear or see this early morning storm? It is actually still going on as I’m typing this. Cheers to the 2026 storm chasing season! Let’s keep it rolling.

F/A-18 Super Hornets Flying Over Sarasota Today! 🇺🇸🛩️🛩️ 7.16.26

I caught a pair of F/A-18 Super Hornets fighter jets as they took off from SRQ Airport today. They were so loud and amazing to watch. I just happened to be there taking photos of other planes when these flew by. Apparently they were in the area from MacDill Air Force Base. Oorah! MARINES!!!
