Happy Mother’s Day to my mom. I miss her so much. She was in my life for thirty eight years and that makes me a very “fortunate son”. BTW she protested the Viet Nam war with a passion. ❤️ 💔

I am psyched that "Born To Kill "was released today. It's a killer album and to have my photo of Mike Ness from the 12/22/22 show at the on the back cover makes it even a better day! Congratulations to and for making this album!

The other night I watched "Pretty Ugly: The Story of The Lunachicks". I had been looking forward to watching it and it did not disappoint. It was awesome! Four bad ass woman who played fast, loud music, had fun, and didn't give a f**k what people thought of them.

There’s a backstory to how I found them. In December 2021, I was in NYC for my book signing at Generation Records. My oldest daughter and I stopped by to check things out, and it turned out that The Lunachicks were doing their signing for their book "Fallopian Rhapsody: The Story of The Lunachicks" I’d been out of the scene since ’83, so I didn’t know much about them...my loss.

On December 10th, the place was packed. After they spoke, I introduced myself, exchanged signed books, and took a few picks. They were incredibly cool to both me and my daughter (who wasn’t part of the punk scene at all). The next night was my signing… let’s just say I wasn’t exactly a draw 😢.

Afterward, we headed to Bowery Ballroom for a benefit for Howie Piro featuring Jesse Malin, The Toilet Boys, The Renegades (with Ben Stiller on drums), and The Lunachicks. I chisled my way to the front with child in tow. When they played I was blown away! They were loud, fast, and insanely fun. Sharing that night with my daughter made it even better. She loved them1

Fast forward to October 3rd, 2025: they played with L7 at The Belasco Theater. The place was packed and the vibe was fun and full of excitement since it was two decades since they last played in LA. When they hit the stage, the place exploded! Everyone had a great time. It was an all-around killer night watching badass women playing killer music!

The documentary filled in so much—their history, the highs and lows, and footage from the late ’80s through their final tour. If you haven’t listened to them, do it. If you haven’t read the book, do it. And if they play again...go. You won’t be disappointed!

I have posted this story in the past, but when I saw 's photo of Ian and story, I was compelled to revisit the experience. Back in 1982, I was a seventeen-year-old punk living in Manhattan Beach. That year, I managed to enter the hallowed grounds of Black Flag HQ in Redondo Beach. My photographs were the key that opened that door. As I became friendly with Henry, I mentioned my desire to go to DC to see Black Flag while they were on their East Coast tour.

I somehow convinced my mom to let me fly to DC by myself to see them and stay at the Dischord House. I was living with her at the time; my dad didn't really give a s**t and did not like me being in the scene. He wouldn’t even let me wear my Dead Kennedys shirt at his house. Mom, however, was f**king cool!
Prior to the trip, I heard Black Flag cancelled the rest of their tour because Henry injured his knee in Quebec. I was disappointed but stayed the course. I arrived in DC on September 16th, 1982, and made my way to Dischord House. My sleeping accommodations consisted of the couch in the living room.

My memories of staying there are fuzzy. I remember going to the 7-11 across the street for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with many cans of Coke...the straightedge beverage of choice. I remember watching Minor Threat practice in their basement. The lasting memory was when Eddie Janney and Jeff Nelson shaved my head with Ian's electric razor.

I definitely saw my share of bands. I drove with the band to Baltimore where they headlined at Terminal 406.. The prior night was The Wilson Center with The Effigies, Double-O, Iron Cross, and Faith. That was the show Black Flag was supposed to play. I took photos with my point-and-click at both shows.
Now, the biggest mystery is a photo of me, Ian, Henry, and the rest of the people. I thought it was outside the Wilson Center, but people from Richmond corrected me…it was in front of the Casablanca. But was it? I have zero recollection of going to Richmond or seeing Henry but I wore a similar watch back then, I wore Vans high tops, and the biggest giveaway...my ears. It has to be me!!
