No video today because I was in the space working on some new photos!
This image is part of my thesis, eventually I will release the whole project. But for now know that I am:
- working through this years photos, all 40,000 of them so far
- Developing more non-wedding elements to the studio
- Shooting weddings
- editing weddings
- unpacking boxes in the new home
- Fishing in the evenings.
- setting up the tabletop photo space.

Some sessions feel less like a photoshoot and more like wandering into a little pocket of someone’s actual life.

The forest is doing what forests do best here: making everything quieter, darker, greener, and a little more private. They are not dressed up for a grand gesture, and that is why the image works. A backpack still on her shoulders, his arms holding her up, both of them tucked into the trees like they took a break from the trail and forgot for a second that anyone else was around. It feels playful, but not performative. Romantic, but not precious. Just close.

I like when portraits have this kind of physical honesty. The kind where you can feel the weight of being held, the awkwardness of balancing on uneven ground, the small laugh that probably happened right before or right after the kiss. Not every couple needs the same kind of session. Some need a ballroom, some need a mountain overlook, some need a dark patch of woods and enough trust to let the moment get a little messy. This is one of those ceremony photographs where the whole room disappears.

There are people behind her, flowers nearby, a timeline still moving somewhere in the background, but none of that is what you feel first. I love ceremony images because there is nowhere for them to hide. The reaction is either there or it is not, and when it is there, the photograph does not need much else.

Some portraits are less about arriving and more about continuing.A narrow trail, the last color in the sky, a patch of mountain meadow opening into all that distance. I like that they are not stopped for the camera here. They are moving through the frame together, hand in hand, small against the landscape but still clearly the reason the photograph exists. The image has that feeling of being near the end of a session, when the light is fading, the air gets colder, and everyone starts to move a little quieter because the place itself feels bigger than anything we could stage.

There is so much of a relationship in the way someone holds on.

There is something so good about this part of the morning: everyone half ready, glasses raised, makeup finished enough, dresses on, the timeline getting close, and the whole group trying to hold onto one small pocket of joy before the day opens up. I like this frame because it is not about a perfect pose. It is about all the hands reaching in, the way everyone is laughing, the little cluster of people who showed up early, stayed close, and helped carry the bride into the rest of the day.

Right beside the getting ready house, the pond had its own kind of quiet. The wedding day is usually moving fast by this point. Dresses are being steamed, flowers are being carried in, people are looking for shoes, timelines, phones, last little things. Then there are moments like this, where one of the flower girls steps away from the noise and suddenly the whole day feels softer. A white dress against the green, moss on the stones, water just out of frame, and that still, curious look children have when they are part of something big but not trying to perform for it. I love photographs like this because they remind me that a wedding is not only the couple. It is the whole world gathering around them: parents, friends, kids, quiet corners, nervous mornings, and all the small details that make the day feel lived in instead of simply scheduled.

I like this frame because the couple does not have to fill the image to hold it. The trees, the path, the bright wash of afternoon light, and the quiet shape of them wrapped up together in the distance all work because the moment has room around it.
