I took a little break from editing this absolutely GORGEOUS wedding to get all my other galleries finished and delivered!

Every family gallery is officially out the door, which means it’s time to pour all my attention into this beautiful wedding day. 💍

🖤 TSloan Tuesday Talks | The Work You Don’t See 📸

Let’s talk about what happens AFTER your session ends!

When I put my camera down, my work is far from finished. In fact, some of the most time-consuming parts are just beginning.

📸 STEP ONE: CULLING

Ever heard that word before?

Culling is the process of going through every photograph I’ve taken and carefully selecting the images that tell your story best.

I’m looking at focus, expressions, movement, composition, and all those little moments that might have gone unnoticed.

A regular session can mean hundreds of photographs. A wedding? THOUSANDS.

And yes, I go through them all!

🎨 STEP TWO: EDITING

This is where the magic really starts coming together.

Editing is more than applying a preset and calling it done.

I’m adjusting exposure, white balance, skin tones, colors, highlights, and shadows. Sometimes I’m making small corrections, and other times I’m spending extra attention on a single image to get it just right.

My goal has never been to make every photograph look perfectly bright and polished.

I love the shadows. The movement. The emotion. The imperfect, beautiful moments that make your story YOURS.

🖤 TAKE THIS WEDDING PHOTO, FOR EXAMPLE.

A quiet dance, a beautiful dress, and a room full of people.

I could have cropped in close and made this photograph entirely about the couple.

But I wanted you to see the room. The atmosphere. The way the light falls across them while everything else fades into the background.

Because years from now, I don’t just want them to remember what they looked like.

I want them to remember what that moment felt like.

⏳ STEP THREE: TURNAROUND TIME

Let’s talk about the question everyone wants to know!

When will my gallery be ready?

Here’s something people don’t always realize: a 30-minute session doesn’t mean 30 minutes of work.

After your session comes importing, backing up, culling, editing, reviewing, exporting, and preparing your gallery for delivery.

And weddings? They’re an entirely different level of work!

When I’m balancing multiple sessions, mini sessions, and weddings, every gallery deserves its own time and attention.

I know you’re excited to see your photographs. I’m excited to share them!

But I would rather take the time to deliver something I’m proud of than rush through moments that can’t be recreated.

📩 STEP FOUR: GALLERY DELIVERY

Once everything has been carefully reviewed, your images are organized and uploaded into your private gallery.

And then comes one of my favorite parts of this entire process…

Hitting SEND. 🥹

Because all those hours spent behind the camera and computer finally become something you get to hold onto.

🚻 NO RESTROOMS
There are NO bathrooms available on-site, so please plan accordingly before arriving, especially with little ones!

🖤 THEN & NOW THURSDAY 📸

THEN: I thought every good portrait needed a smile.

NOW: Some of my favorite portraits don’t have one.

Can we talk about something for a second? 👀

Somewhere along the way, we started associating a “good picture” with someone smiling at the camera.

And listen, I LOVE a genuine smile. The kind that makes your eyes squint and your nose scrunch up. Those are beautiful.

But you know what else is beautiful?

A serious expression. A distant gaze. A quiet moment. A face that isn’t performing happiness for the camera.

Not every beautiful moment is a happy one. And not every beautiful photograph needs to look happy.

Sometimes a portrait is about confidence. Sometimes it’s vulnerability. Sometimes it’s mystery, strength, or simply existing exactly as you are.

And here’s something I’ve learned:

A smile is an expression. It isn’t a requirement.

I never want someone standing in front of my camera feeling like they have to force an emotion just to create a photograph worth keeping.

Give me your laughter. Your serious side. Your awkwardness. Your softness. Your intensity.

There’s room for all of it here.

Because the goal isn’t to make you look happy.

It’s to make you look like YOU. 🖤

🖤 WHY I SHOOT WEDNESDAY 📸

It’s never just been about the photographs.

It’s about the people in them.

It’s about the mama who gets to exist in the memories instead of always being the one taking the pictures.

It’s about the couple who gets to relive one of the most important days of their lives.

It’s about the families who walk into a session nervous and leave feeling like they’ve spent an afternoon with an old friend.

And sometimes, it’s about reading words like these and realizing that something I created means just as much to someone else as it does to me.

I don’t shoot for perfect poses, flawless smiles, or a picture that looks pretty on someone’s feed.

I shoot because someday, these photographs will be all that’s left of a moment we can never get back.

And knowing that someone trusts AJ and me to preserve those moments? That’s something I’ll never take lightly.

To every person who has stepped in front of my camera, trusted my vision, shared their story, or taken a moment to leave us words like these…

Thank you for reminding me why I picked up a camera in the first place.

The photographs are yours. But the privilege of capturing them will always be mine. 🖤

🖤 TSLOAN TUESDAY TALKS 🖤

Photography has taught me more about people than I ever expected.

When I first picked up a camera, I knew I wanted to create beautiful photographs. What I didn’t realize was how much I would learn about the people standing on the other side of my lens.

And I don’t mean their names, their favorite colors, or what they do for a living.

I mean the little things.

The way someone instinctively reaches for their partner’s hand.

The way a parent looks at their child when they think nobody is watching.

The nervous laughter that slowly turns into genuine confidence when people think they look weird.

The way two people can express love completely differently, yet neither way is any less meaningful.

Photography has taught me that love doesn’t have one look. Families don’t have one definition. And beauty certainly doesn’t have one standard.

It’s also taught me something about human connection.

Sometimes people just need someone to make them feel comfortable enough to be themselves. Sometimes kids need a dance party before they get started.

And as a photographer, that’s something I never want to take for granted.

Because behind every photograph is a person with a story I may only get to see a tiny piece of.

And I think that’s pretty beautiful.
