I first met Ed Williams back around 2010 at a Elma Auto Racing Hall of Fame induction ceremony, it might of been one that he did the mic work that day. I knew of Ed from reading previous publications and even in Racing Wheels magazine back when I was a kid. I knew he had a long history in motorsports, mostly sprint cars, super modifieds and midgets. Ever since that EARHoF event in 2010, we have always ran into each other at the events and had lengthy conversations. He was always very kind and a wealth of knowledge about racing in the Northwest. When I expanded on just doing video and photos, into writing articles. I didn't know what to do. I always felt I couldn't write an article worth a damn. After about half the season my first year, I had these multi paragraph, 3 to 4 page write ups, because I felt I went into too much detail. I started cutting them back and I remember the next year, I seen Ed at a EARHoF ceremony and he gave me a few tips (as did some others). There came a time I seen Ed in recent time and he told me how much he enjoyed my write ups, while I thought they got the job done and kept it short and to the point, and I personally wouldn't say they were anything special. Ed told me how much he enjoyed them, also photos and the videos. It really took me by surprise, because a guy who worked in media himself, wrote countless articles, etc. Did a lot of other positions in racing in the Northwest, he gave me praise. Something I never expected. Especially with his talent.
Last time I seen Ed, was the 2024 Elma Auto Racing Hall of Fame Ceremony where he was inducted. Something very deserving for him. Every time I seen him at a event, I would make sure I had a conversation with him. Just to see how he was doing and talk racing or whatever. I always enjoyed those moments. Unfortunately this morning, I read that Ed has passed on. I was hoping next month to see him at the next EARHoF event. He will definitely be missed on that evening and every day by many. Thank you for the conversations Ed. Definitely going to miss that. Thank you for all you have done in auto racing in the Pacific Northwest. My thoughts and condolences to his family, friends, and everyone in the Northwest racing scene that knew him. Rest In Peace Ed.
