YAHOO!!! The Halloween Photo Nook officially kicks off TODAY! 👻🎃

I've been having so much fun putting this little setup together, and now I finally get to see it filled with all kinds of little ghosts, witches, superheroes, and whatever else you creative kiddos have dreamed up!

And I have to say, one of my favourite parts of photographing kids is that you never quite know what's going to happen.

There might be a big smile.
There might be a very serious superhero pose.
There might be a little monster who decides they're actually in charge of the whole session. 😂

And I LOVE every bit of it!

Okay, I have a question for all the parents out there...

What are your kiddos dressing up as for Halloween this year?! 🎃

I LOVE hearing what kids come up with! And I especially love seeing those costumes come to life.

That's one of the reasons I'm bringing back my Halloween Photo Nook this year. I want to capture all those fun little personalities, silly expressions, and costumes that you'll be talking about for years to come.

And we're keeping it quick and easy because I know how busy Halloween week can get!

Just 10 minutes, a whole lot of fun, and some pretty adorable photos to look back on.

I spent part of the afternoon setting up the Halloween Photo Nook and I am soooo thrilled with how it turned out!!! And I am sooooo hoping I get to see LOTS of kiddos in it! 🎃👻

If you know a family who would love this, please share this post in your feed and help me spread the word! It would mean SO much!

And I'm happy to say the weather is looking pretty decent for Saturday, so come on out! It might be a little chillier for the first two days, but we can still make it work. I mean, heck… the kids are out trick-or-treating for ages, so they can certainly handle 10 minutes for photos!

Of course, I wanted to show you what the Nook would look like with a Halloween character inside, so Reubs’ girlfriend came over to help me out. How fun is this?!

This is such a fun way to capture your kids in their Halloween costumes. And trust me, these are the kinds of photos you’ll look back on for YEARS to come. The costumes they were so excited about, those little faces, the stage they were at in life…

Oh, these kids!!! ❤️

I have had SO much fun looking back through the photos from our Personality Project sessions.

The expressions.
The funny little poses.
The serious looks that last about two seconds before someone bursts out laughing.

Every child brings something completely different, and I LOVE seeing what happens when we give them a little space to just be themselves.

No elaborate backdrops. No need for matching outfits. Just a chair, beautiful light, and a whole lot of personality!

And here's another thought... wouldn't these make the most wonderful Christmas gifts for grandparents?! Something that captures exactly who their grandchild is at this age.

We're doing it all again on November 7, and Kelly Jo and I would absolutely love to have your little rockstar join us!

Halloween is almost here!!! 🎃⁠

And I can't wait to see all those little ghosts, witches, superheroes, princesses, and whatever else your kiddos have decided to be this year!⁠

We're bringing the Halloween Photo Nook to life for three days, and I have to tell you, I've been having WAY too much fun putting this one together.⁠
⁠
The inspiration started with this photo taken 15 or so years ago!! Hailey in her princess outfit. I've wanted to recreate this for years and finally doing it with our photo nook! It will look a bit different from this but still filled with fun Halloween décor, a little bit of spooky, and plenty of room for those big personalities to come out!⁠

And the best part? These are quick sessions, so you can pop in, show off those costumes, have some fun, and carry on with your Halloween adventures.⁠

I chose a personal photo for this Friday’s post. ⁠
⁠
Not just because I love these two kiddos. Or because I know how much Reubs loves his truck and ALWAYS wants to get it into photos. Or because I love country shoots and the light out here is just RIDICULOUS.⁠
⁠
But because I’m taking a little weekend break. A little me time. A little friend time. Some time away from my computer and camera. I debated declining the invitation because I have tons of editing still to do. I have a ton of planning to do. I have leads to follow up with. As many of us know, there’s always something else we could be working on!⁠
⁠
I tell ya, running a photography business means spending so much time behind the camera, in front of the computer, editing, answering emails, planning winter shoots as you're editing fall shoots, creating, trying to stay on top of all the things. All the things.⁠
⁠
And i just need to somewhere else for a couple of days and let my brain (and my arm!!!) have a break.⁠
⁠
So that’s what I’m doing. ⁠
⁠
Happy Friday, everyone. Give yourself permission to take a little time for YOU, too. Even when your to-do list is ridiculously long.

A little peek at some of the fun we had in the Holiday Photo Nook! ⁠

Bright. Colourful. Whimsical. And LOTS of fun to play around in! I love it. ⁠
⁠
And I love seeing actual people in the Nook, making it their own, playing around and having a little fun in front of the camera. ⁠
⁠
And guess what? The weather is looking pretty lovely over the next week, so why not take advantage of it?! Mornings or around 5:15 pm are ideal for lighting, and since the Holiday Photo Nook is right in my backyard, we can figure out a time that works for both of us.⁠

Even Sunday (tomorrow) morning can work for me.⁠
⁠

Reuben, Ainsley and I had SUCH a fun time photographing at our Farmyard Holiday location last night! And I’ve whipped up a few photos so you can get a peek at just how beautiful these images are going to be. ⁠

Rustic charm, spruce trees, cedar boughs, hay bales, cozy little scenes… and all the magic of a country Christmas! We’ve got a cozy horse trailer (not yet used for horses!! 😂), a barn entranceway, and all sorts of fun little nooks to explore.⁠

Our FIRST day is THIS SATURDAY! Yep, I know. Just a couple of days away! ⁠
⁠
But the weather is looking fantastic, the location is gorgeous, and if you can make it happen… LET’S DO IT!!! We will have other dates available, so if you can't make this weekend work let me know and we'll find a time.⁠

My whole world lately has been outdoors, soaking up the fall sunshine and those gorgeous autumn colours. I have just LOVED having fun with my families during this Calgary fall and I'm busily editing those shoots now. ⁠
⁠
I've got more fun outdoor options to share soon (think Halloween and Holiday!), but I also want to tell you about something that takes me back indoors — the Personality Project!⁠

Because no matter where I'm photographing kids --school photos, family sessions, preschool photos -- it's always the same things I love most.⁠
⁠
Those little expressions. The sideways grins. The serious looks. The giggles.⁠
⁠
THIS is what I love about photographing kids. And it truly puts me in my happy place. ⁠
⁠
No big production. No complicated posing. Just simple, beautiful portraits that capture a little bit of who they are RIGHT NOW. That's what my Personality Series of photos is about. ⁠

Because goodness knows, it changes quickly (Says the mom of a 18 and 20 year old) ⁠
