“After the Storm”

A beautiful lonely tree standing tall after a Summer Storm rolled through Innisfil, Ontario.

I think there’s something to be said about this tree and the lessons it can give us.

I figured this would be the perfect image to post on this rainy Wednesday afternoon. Once the rain passes you never know we may be treated with a beautiful sunset …. or at the least, some nicer weather 🙂

One thing I miss from early Spring is being able to get very up close to these guys on the local pond. Those quiet, cold, misty mornings while the shoreline reeds are flattened by the melted Winter snowpack creates so many wonderful moments as I lay silent with my camera. They’d often know I was there and would curiously swim up to me. I’m guessing they didn’t mind me being there as they’d circle around in front of me without a care.

Canada Geese are very common of course but are still a very beautiful bird and can be wonderful to photograph.

The Fall bird migration is underway.

If you’re at all familiar with this image it is a screenshot of the precipitation radar in South/Central Ontario 🇨🇦. At first glance it appears there is a fair bit of rain but in actuality the skies are mainly clear with zero precipitation falling.

What is happening here is that the radar is picking up birds in flight. I’ve noticed the radar in the last few nights picking up activity similar to this. During the day the radar will show little to no activity but as soon as the sun goes down the migrating birds take flight. Most of the birds shown here on radar are on their annual journey flying south for the winter.

"Long-Legged Fly"

Last year I started shooting a lot of macro especially in the summer months when the gardens are busy and alive with life. I'm going to start showcasing my favourite macro images on my page here.

Flies are annoying and bothersome especially when they're inside your house. But, close up, these little creatures can be absolutely beautiful to look at. In this image, the Long-Legged Fly, these little flies are smaller than the size of your finger nail but have a ton of colour .... and pretty cool looking I think :)

“Dinner Time !”

A Father Northern Cardinal feeding his baby boy who isn’t much of a baby anymore. This was photographed about a week ago and during the past few days I’ve seen the parents letting their kids fend for themselves more.

The Dad appears to be just starting his late summer molt as cardinals lose their feathers to be replaced with new ones which help them stay vibrant and warm during the winter months.

Last Winter I had the opportunity and pleasure to photograph a Great Gray Owl as well as this Eastern Screech Owl.

This guy was super fascinating to watch as he rested in a blue spruce tree during the day. Every now and then he’d open his eyes and casually scan his surroundings. He’d turn his head around occasionally as if it was on a swivel. If you didn’t know, owls cannot move their eyes so they rely solely on their head movements to look around.

Owls are incredibly amazing and majestic animals …. and very photogenic !
